The government has commissioned a ship to strengthen Hilsha research in the rivers.
Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) signed a memorandum of understanding with Khulna shipyard on Monday (May 13).
The construction of the nearly Tk 80 million ship will be funded by the Strengthening of Hilsa Research in Riverine Station, Chandpur project.
The agreement stipulates that Khulna shipyard will hand over the ship to BFRI within two years.
The modern ship will be equipped with fish finder, echo sounder, navigation and modern telecommunication system, fire extinguishers, Hisha research laboratory, netting system and portable hatcheries.
The ship will make observation of the changes and effects on Hilsha breeding easier and more accurate.
