Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina plans three-country tour when she is likely to leave Dhaka in the last week of this month.
She is scheduled to attend the 25th international conference on The Future of Asia organised by Nikkei to be held on May 30 and 31 in Tokyo.
She will also attend Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit to be held in Saudi Arabia on May 31.
The PM is likely to visit a third country on a personal trip, according to officials.
According to Nikkei website, Hasina will deliver her speech at The Future of Asia event on May 30 when Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad will also speak. The Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will also attend the event.
In the question and answer session, Prime Minister Hasina will respond to different queries of the audience.
A foreign ministry official said, “Currently Bangladesh and Japan are negotiating to conclude 40th ODA package of about $2.2 billion that will be used to build Matarbari port and power plant and a part of mass rapid transport system in Dhaka.”
We expect to conclude the deal after the bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinjo Abe on May 29, he said.
Leaders from different countries will attend the event and it is likely that the prime minister will have sideline meetings in Tokyo, he added.
Another official said, “Rohingya issue will also be discussed and Bangladesh will seek Japan support to resolve it.”
OIC Summit
Prime Minister Hasina will fly to Saudi Arabia from Japan to attend the OIC Summit there.
Another official said, “The prime minister will deliver her speech where she will highlight the cooperation among the Muslim world.”
She will also seek international support to resolve the Rohingya crisis in her speech, he said.
Bangladesh will negotiate to include Rohingya issue in the final communiqué negotiated before the summit begins, he added.
The prime minister will also perform Omrah hajj and visit Medina during her stay in Saudi Arabia, the official said.
Third country visit
The prime minister is likely to visit another country on a personal trip.
Another official said, “We are currently negotiating and if everything goes right, the prime minister will for a personal trip to another country where she will stay till Eid.”
