Her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy is an IT specialist and went to St. Joseph, Harvard University and Bangalore University. Her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, is an Autism specialist and a psychologist.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy says at different programmes that he learnt politics from his mother and also got encouragement in education from her.

She used to cook for them and prepare them every morning for school. Sheikh Hasina came back to the country on 17 May, 1981 and after coming back, dedicated herself to unifying the party.
But despite being involved in the rough and tumble of politics, she never failed to keep track of the education of her children.

Later, he got enrolled to Harvard University and did his Masters in public administration. But his academic life was far from smooth since several times he missed to pay semester fees.

Today, he is at the vanguard of technological transformation of Bangladesh and World Economic Forum selected Joy as a Young Global Leader. He also won UN’s Development Award for ICT in 2016.
On the other hand, his sister, Saima Wazed is leading a global movement against Autism.
She is the chairman of Autism Committee in Bangladesh. World Health Organisation, WHO, gave her the WHO Excellence award in 2014.

At her initiative, the first Autism related summit was held in Dhaka in July, 2011. Putul went to Barry University and got a Masters in clinical psychology in 2002.
She also won the Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim gold medal for her contribution to mental health treatment, Global Award from International Diabetes Federation and the International Champion Award in USA.
