Bangladesh Embassy in WashingtonThe United States ordered a Bangladesh embassy staff member in Washington to leave the country in allegations of domestic violence.

Police at Washington, DC, launched an investigation after allegations had surfaced that Delwar regularly tortured his wife.

Delwar Hossain, an office assistant at passport and visa wing of the embassy, will now have to leave the US within May 12 following orders from the State Department and police.

Shamim Ahmed, the press minister at the embassy said: “A grade-three employee of the Department of Immigration and Passports, Delwar had joined the embassy about two years ago. He will now have to return to Dhaka along with his wife.”

The Bangladeshi couple had told the mission that they had settled the dispute after the allegations had been found true. Delwar and his wife had also promised that they would never engage in domestic violence again.

The embassy then conveyed their pledge to the US State Department but to no avail.
