Bangladesh imposes 65-day fishing ban in Bay of Bengal

Reuters/file photoThe government has imposed a 65-days ban on fishing in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Bay of Bengal to conserve the country's marine fish stock.
The ban that takes effect between May 60 and Jul 23 will also cover the Kudiabtia and Moheskhali estuaries.
A notification has been circulated by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on the matter.
The notification said fishing by boat and commercial trawlers is banned anywhere in the Bay in the stipulated time.
Local authorities have been asked to implement the ban, it reads.
