Biman Bangladesh Airlines will compensate and bear medical expenses of the passengers who were injured after one of its aircraft skidded off the runway in Yangon.
“The airliner was insured and passenger will be compensated as per the insurance guidelines after inquiries,” Biman General Manager (public relations) Shakil Meraj said on Thursday (May 9).
“Among the injured, 14 were taking treatments at Myanmar hospitals and the Bangladesh mission is overseeing the issue,” he added.
A team of ground engineers has travelled to Myanmar to assess the damages on the plane, said Shakil.
The BG 060 flight of Biman was carrying 35 people on board, including 29 passengers, four crew members and two ground engineers when it left Dhaka for Myanmar on Wednesday. But the aircraft encountered a thunderstorm at the time of its descent to Yangon.
The plane skid off the runway upon landing at 6:22 pm. Flights at the airport were suspended for two hours following the accident.
