The Election Commission has set Jun 16 for the election to lone reserved women’s seat in parliament for the BNP.
According to the schedule announced on Wednesday (May 8), the deadline for filling nominations is May 20.
“The candidates will be able to withdraw nominations by May 28 after scrutiny on May 21 and the voting has been scheduled for Jun 16,” EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said.
Earlier, the candidates had been elected uncontested to 49 out of 50 seats reserved for women in parliament.
Of them, 43 are from the ruling Awami League, four from the Jatiya Party, one from the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh and the remaining an independent candidate.
The name is likely to be announced on the deadline day for withdrawal of nomination on May 28.
In the 350-seat parliament, 50 are reserved exclusively for women and the remaining 300 are contested in a direct election. The reserved seats are allocated to political parties in proportion to their number of seats in parliament.
