Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the Dharala Bridge to the people of Kurigram and Lalmonirhat as gift of Eid.
She said, “Take this bridge as a gift of Eid from me for the people of Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur region. Take care of this bridge.”
She made the comment while inaugurating the bridge through a video conference from Ganobhaban at 10am on Sunday.
“This bridge will develop communication system of the region, boosting business transactions. The government is working for the development of northern Bengal,” she also said.
Commenting on the development of northern region of the country, Hasina said, “"The government is working to change the fate of farmers in different areas of greater Rangpur. Production is being increased. On the other hand, the country’s rivers including Dharla-Brahmaputra are being dredged, so that they can reserve more water during rainy season. Once upon a time, Monga (famine) was an annual issue in North Bengal; now the problem is no more.”
She said, “Many governments came after Bangabandhu, but none raised the enclave issue to India. We have successfully and peacefully resolved the issue.”
“Due to the launching of Bangabandhu satellite communications with remote areas would not be cut during natural disaster also. Everybody will be able to confirm their position. Moreover, under ‘Learning and Earning’ project, people are being taught computer literacy,” the PM added.
