Five Bangladeshis are among the 11 people killed in a bus accident in Malaysia on Sunday (Apr 7).
Local media reported that 32 others have been injured as a bus carrying factory workers plunged into monsoon drain near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The Bangladesh embassy has confirmed the identities of the dead Bangladeshi nationals. They are Md Razib Munsi, 26, Md Sohel, 24, Mohin, 37, Al Amin, 25, and Golam Mostafa, 22.
Its Labour Counsellor Mohammad Zahurul Haque told Bangla Tribune that four other Bangladeshis are being treated at hospital with severe injuries.
“Our people are in touch with the hospital authorities. We have also spoken with the police and the company they worked for to ensure compensation and other issues,” he said.
The injured Bangladeshis are undergoing treatment at Putrajaya Hospital and Serdang Hospital, according to New Strait Times.
Quoting officials, the Malaysian daily reported that the bus carrying 43 people veered off the road and fell into the monsoon drain, leaving nine people dead on the spot.
Two others succumbed to their injuries later at the hospital.
The remaining passengers were sent to different hospitals, including Kajang, Serdang and Putrajaya hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated, according to the report.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel took about an hour to reach the victims as they had to cut through several parts of the bus, said the New Strait Times.
