“They are not entering politics before the next (cricket) world cup,” the Awami League general secretary told the media.
The cricketers’ expected political foray made news headlines after Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told the media on Tuesday that they will be possibly running in the election as Awami League candidate.
Road Transport Minister Quader, however, made it clear that it’s not happening this time. “Shakib Al Hasan told me he is not entering politics before the world cup.”
The next cricket world cup is scheduled for 2019.
Awami League leader Quader, however, said they have some ‘surprise’ over candidates for the national election. “It’s yet to be finalised; cultural, media and sport personalities may feature. But whoever gets the party’s ticket, has to be a winnable candidate.”
