Lawmakers have demanded the security check at the country’s airports be relaxed for very important persons (VIPs).
They also requested to set up separate queue for VIPs to pass the airport security check.
Their demands came at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry at the parliament complex on Sunday (Apr 7).
Sources at the meeting said, the demands came amid the allegation of Chief Justice’s protocol officers locking horns with airport security in Dhaka.
On Mar 27, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain’s protocol officers got into arguments with security personnel at the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after the CJ was asked to take off his coat as part of the security protocol.
The matter was discussed at the meeting, according to the sources.
When asked, one of the committee member lawmaker Syeda Rubina Akter said, “They have asked to avoid embarrassing situation during security check for VIPs at airport
“Whether asking VIPs to put off shoes can be avoided during the check has been discussed,” she added.
Akter, however, claimed it was not a ‘serious’ discussion.
According to the meeting sources, other members of the committee agreed and asked the civil aviation ministry at act.
The ministry, however, said they would be required instruction from the government’s high level to work on it, said the sources.
