Frustrated Rohingya youths, who fled Myanmar and now living in Bangladesh camps, are at the risk of being exploited by vested quarters, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Her remarks came on Sunday (Apr 7) during a meeting with British State Minister Mark Field.
Field, in- charge of Asia and the Pacific of the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office called on the prime minister at her offices.
Press Secretary to PM Ihsanul Karim briefed the media after the meeting.
"The young people who don’t have any work are also not sure about their repatriation to their homeland and getting frustrated about their uncertain future. Vested groups can exploit those people for bad purposes," he quoted the premier saying at the meeting.
The international community should mount strong pressure so Myanmar takes back their citizens, Hasina told the British minister.
"This is causing huge pressure in the area and the Rohingyas outnumbered the local people," she was quoted saying by the press secretary.
The plight of the Rohingyas would further worsen during the monsoon, Hasina said before adding that the government is preparing an island to relocate the Rohingyas temporarily with better living conditions.
UK State Minister Field said that accommodating over one million Rohingyas are a big burden for Bangladesh.
He congratulated Hasina on her third straight term, according to Press Secretary Karim.
Bangladesh has a very good potential and the relations between Bangladesh and the UK is growing fast, he told the prime minister
Field said that the UK government would work with Bangladesh on climate change issue. He also mentioned that his country would co-operate in education sector.
