British Foreign Office State Minister Mark FieldBritish Foreign Office State Minister Mark Field is scheduled to arrive on Friday (Apr 5) in his second Bangladesh visit in nine months.
In June last year, Field travelled to Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya camps with UK’s Special Envoy for Gender Equality Joanna Roper.
During his four-day visit, Field is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and likely to have meetings with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Education Minister Dipu Moni.
Field is coming at a time when Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Minister Md Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque will not be available.
Momen is set to fly on Saturday for Washington on a bilateral trip while both state minister and foreign secretary are not in town.
“We have robust engagement with Britain and expect to have good discussion with UK minister on trade, Rohingya, education and other bilateral issues,” a foreign ministry official said.
Britain has always supported Bangladesh on Rohingya cause and provided humanitarian support of about 140 million pounds, according to the official who said that Field will also travel to Chattogram during the visit.
