In the backdrop of Banani fire, the European Union has urged the government to take policy measures to ensure fire safety in all work places.
An EU statement released Friday said: “The European Union attaches high importance to safety at the work place and has been working since 2013 with the authorities of Bangladesh to improve work place safety in the Readymade Garment sector. The EU also encourages the Government of Bangladesh to take similar policy measures in work place in other economic sectors in Bangladesh, including in the building sector.”
Expressing deep condolence for the loss of lives in the fire, the EU Delegation also wishes early recovery for those who have sustained injuries from the fire.

On Thursday (Mar 28) a deadly fire broke out on the ninth floor of the multi storied FR Tower at Banani.
Over 20 firefighting worked for over six hours to douse the fire that has claimed 19 lives and injured scores.
