Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken up the Border Tourism Project to facilitate the tourists who want visit the border areas of the country. But this project of the BGB Welfare Trust is being interrupted due to the Rohingya crisis in the country.
The main objective of this project is to create travel opportunities for travel lover people in the border areas and reduce the crime rate among the Poverty-stricken people by connecting them in this project. Authorities said that through all border areas of the country could be brought under the project, the project will be fully implemented soon. But the sudden Rohingya crisis has interrupted the implementation of the project.
Officials associated with Border Tourism said that the project has been adopted to make safe travels for the tourists in remarkable spots in the border areas. There is a website of this project where tourists will get the necessary information. Besides, they also took initiative for a mobile app. Due to the Rohingya crisis; they are not getting scopes to pay attention to this project. But the project will be implemented soon. The aim of this initiative is to make Bangladeshi tourism sector more vigorous, popular and presentable. The motto of the project is ‘Comfortable travel in utmost safety.’
Officials of the project said the border area population of Bangladesh is comparatively poor. Drug dealers and arms traders take the advantage of their poverty and use them in various types of crimes. The implementation of this project will bring economic solvency to these poor people and their crime tendency will decrease then.
In the website of the ‘Border Tourism,’ tourists will get information about all the remarkable sites of the 4,427 km border areas of the country. Videos and photographs of the resorts under BGB management have been given on the website. Information regarding tour packages, online bookings and payments are also available on the website. Currently, Thanchi, Tamabil tour package from Dhaka is available. Cox's Bazar resort package will be launched soon.
Major General Abul Hossain, Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said, ‘There are many remarkable sites in the border area. We also have the capacity to tourism more comfortable. We have our own people and rest house everywhere. There we will give the tourists best services. Now you will just make a wish of a tour and Border Tourism will make it true.’
Mohammad Liaquat, Additional Director (Admin) of BGB Headquarters said, ‘Now BGB is busy in operational work. Border tourism is not our main job, it is an additional project. We're making slow progress in this project. Hopefully, we will be able to implement this project all the border areas. "
