State will move a contempt plea on Wednesday (Mar 27) against the legal counsel of Ruhul Amin, the prime suspect in the Suarnachar rape incident, for misleading the court to get bail for his client.
The High Court bench of justices Mamnoon Rahman and SM Kuddus Zaman on Monday (Mar 25) said that it will hear the matter the same day,
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said, “Lawyer Ashek-e-Rasul left the country after he misled the court to get bail for his client. We have verbally pleaded the court against the defence counsel. However, the court will hear the matter on Wednesday after we file a written petition.”
The high court bench on Mar 18 granted one-year bail for Ruhul Amin and two days later, on Mar 21, the State moved the Supreme Court’s chamber judge against it.
On Mar 23 the same bench withdrew the order of bail for the rape suspect.
Ruhul Amin was the publicity affairs secretary of Subarnachar Awami League, but the party expelled him after his alleged involvement in the rape case. He was also a former member of Char Jubilee Union Parishad.
On the night of Dec 30, the woman was gang-raped in Subarnachar by a dozen local AL activists for allegedly voting for paddy sheaf, according to the victim’s family.
