Two Bangladeshis have died in the New Zealand mosques shootings and three are still missing, confirms State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam.
He disclosed the information on Saturday (Mar 16) at an event organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB).
Five more Bangaldeshis are being treated at the hospital and two of them are in critical condition, said Alam.At least 49 people were killed after a gunman opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch on Friday. Many others were injured.
State Minister Alam said that the two deceased have been identified as Dr Md Abdus Samad and Hosne Ara Parveen.
Those who are still missing are, Mozammel Hoque, Zakaria Bhuiyan and Shawon.The wounded Bangladeshis at hospital have been identified as Lipi, Muntasim, Sheikh Hassan Rubel, Shahjada Akhtar and Omor Farooq, said the minister.
Lipi and Muntasim are in critical condition, he added.
“Deputy chief of the Australian mission Tareq Ahmed and Honorary Consul of Auckland Shafiqur Rahman is in Christchurch at the moment,” said Alam. “They are overseeing the entire matter. The national cricket team will be reaching Dhaka on Saturday.”
