An injured person is loaded into an ambulance following a shooting at the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, March 15, 2019. REUTERSThe government would do whatever necessary to support the Bangladeshi origin people in Christchurch, said Deputy Chief of Australian mission Tareq Ahmed.

Ahmed is now in Christchurch to deal with the consular services for Bangladesh citizens as Dhaka has no mission in the New Zealand city.

"We are constantly in touch with New Zealand authorities to ensure proper security of our cricket team who has already left the country" he told Bangla Tribune over phone.

The team left early Bangladesh time and will have a stopover in Singapore, he added.

Ahmed said they have received a request from a victim's family that they want to bring back the body to Bangladesh.

We will provide necessary support in this regard, said the diplomat.

“If others need any help or assistance we will be there to help,” reiterated Ahmed before adding, “A consular officer is accompanying me in case any Bangladeshi needs any consular support.”
