Number of cancer patients drops: Minister

The updated file photo shows Health Minister Zahid Maleque speaking at a programme.The number of cancer patients in Bangladesh now stands at 150,781 and it's dropping gradually, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
“According to a 2018 report of the International Agency for Research on Cancer of World Health Organization, 108,137 people of the cancer-affected have died,” he said replying to a query of lawmaker M Abdul Latif during the House’s question and answer session on Sunday (Mar 3).
In reply to another query, the Maleque said, “The government plans to appoint as many as 10,000 doctors and nurses for state-run hospitals in Upazilas across the country.
“Advertisement has already been run to appoint 5,000 doctors,” he said.
The number of tobacco users has come down to 35.03 percent which was 43.03 in GATS, 2009, he informed.
