Intelligence sources said different routes are being used for trafficking Yaba pills. The anti-drug operation is yet to have any impact on yaba supply as the drug is still available in different spots in Dhaka.
However, several sources at the law enforcing agencies said the supply will come down in the future and the operation will continue until the illegal business is completely abolished.
An intelligence source said different routes are being used for trafficking drugs from Cox’s Bazar to Chattagram to Dhaka. He also said that some consignments also come through Barishal.
Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police [DMP] Debdash Bhattacharya told the Bangla Tribune, “It is difficult to say if the yaba supply has been reduced or not. But, we are committed to abolish the drug business. Now we are preparing a list of drug dealers who are operating in the country.”
A source in the police said, yaba is being sold at different places in Dhaka including Kawran Bazar, Tejgaon, Mahakhali, Shahbagh, New Market, Jatrabari and other areas.
Rab official Mufti Mahmood Khan told the Bangla Tribune, “We are committed to eradicate drug business from Bangladesh and that’s why we are conducting anti-drug operations. If we can uproot the business, other crimes including murder, snatching and theft will also come down.”
The law enforcing agencies killed 38 ‘drug dealers’ in separate gunfights in 19 districts in the last three weeks. The police claimed that they also killed some top drug dealers.
Meanwhile, on Monday the police recovered 50 pieces of yaba from a businessman, Aktaruzzaman, in Mughda area in the capital while two suspects with 40,000 pieces of yaba have been detained by Rab in Gazipur.
