The election officials and law enforcers at the four polling centres at the capital’s SOS Hermann Gmeiner College were seen spending a relatively relaxed time five hours into the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral by-polls.
There are a total of 16 booths at the four centres, all of which were relatively empty. Less than 100 votes were cast in each of the centres.
“This centre has 2,131 voters. 80 votes have been cast,” said the college’s 122 no station Presiding Officer Syedul Hoque.
The scenario is the same in all the other centres at the college. Hari Haran Chowdhury, another presiding officer refused to say how many votes were cast.
However, the election officials said that five hours into the election the four centres didn’t have a collective voter turnout of even 400.
