From now on 30 percent recruitment of the public prosecutors (PP) will be conducted through the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission, said Law Minister Anisul Huq.
“Until now 100 percent of the PPs were appointed in the political quota,” he told the media on Tuesday (Feb 26) at his office in the Secretariat.
He added that during this term, 30 percent of the recruitment will be through the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission and rest of the 70 percent will be recruited in political quota.
“We are evaluating the proposal to increase the salaries of PPs which is likely to be effective from Jul 1, 2020. Additional Tk 2.67 billion will be needed to implement it but it is already been discussed with the former finance minister and the prime minister,” said Huq.
Responding to queries on Jamaat’s name change, the minister said, “No matter what name Jamaat takes, if any of their leaders are found to be related to the war crimes, they will be brought to justice.”
On allegations against PP Tureen Afroz meeting with war criminals, Huq said, “The matter is still under probe. I don’t wish to make any comments and hinder the investigation.”
