Biman hijack: Civil aviation authority starts case

REUTERSThe Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) has started a case over the attempted hijacking of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane in Chattogram.
Debabrata Sarkar, a CAAB technical assistant in Chattogram, filed the case with the port city’s Patenga Police Station.
Inspector Gazi Md Fauzul said that purported hijacker Palash Ahmed, who was killed in the commando operation, and several other unidentified people has been accused.
“We have launched an investigation,” he told Bangla Tribune.
Flight BG 147 which was travelling from Dhaka to Dubai via Chattogram was allegedly hijacked on Sunday at the port city’s Shah Amanat International Airport.
The plane was landed on an emergency basis and all the 148 passengers on board were evacuated safely. All the cabin crew members were also safe.
Later, the alleged hijacker, who was said to have been in his mid-20s and armed with a pistol, was neutralised in a swift commando operation of eight minutes.
Officials said later the suspect appeared to have been “psychologically imbalanced” and that he had an issued with his wife and wanted to speak to the prime minister.
