Ten year old Shahadat Sabri bin Muminul never saw his father, who died in the 2009 BDR mutiny. BANGLA TRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainTen year old Shahadat Sabri bin Muminul never saw his father because 11 days before birth, his father Major Muninul Islam Sarkar was killed in the BDR mutiny. He was working in the intelligence section. On Feb 25, his relatives came to offer prayers at the Banani military graveyard.

Shahadat is now a class three student of a city school. Muminul’s wife Sanjana, says, “I am still haunted by the event and our loss is irreparable.”

It’s been ten years since the BDR carnage and we want swift implementation of the verdict, she added.

After laying wreaths at the graveyards of slain officers, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, said: “the trial is almost at the end.”

DG of Border Guards Bangladesh, BGB, Major General Md. Safnul Islam says, “the current BGB is more disciplined than BDR.”

Saying that the name and uniform of the unit was changed after the tragedy, he added, “the chain of command has been improved, law has been changed, making BGB more disciplined.”

On 25 and 26 February, 2009, rogue soldiers of BDR unleashed murder and mayhem in which 57 army officers were killed along with 17 women and children.
