Incessant downpour since the wee hours of Monday disrupted the everyday life in the capital as most of the city streets submerged under water since the early morning, creating untold sufferings for the commuters to reach their destinations.

Heavy rainfall halted the regular pace in the city on May 21.Most of the streets at different parts of the capital city submerged under water due to several hours’ incessant downpour. City dwellers faced untold sufferings as water flooded the streets at Mirpur, Malibag, Maghbazar, Mohammadpur, Tejgaon, Shewrapara, Shajahanpur, Matijheel, Lalbag and many other areas.

The continuous downpour in the city did not come as a blessing on May 21.The school-going children and office commuters suffered a lot as water clogged on the streets, creating a shortage of vehicles. Moreover, number of wayfarers on streets was comparatively less due to the continuous rainfall.

People suffered to reach destinations on time.

Met Office sources Monday said the volume of rainfall since 9:00 am Sunday to 9:00 am Monday was 107 mm.

Contacted, meteorologist Nijhum Rokeya Ahmed told Bangla Tribune, “Today (Monday) intermittent rainfall will continue the whole day due to heavy clouds.”

Heavy rain slows down traffic in the city. This intermittent rainfall might continue for the next 3-4 days, she added.
