“The elections will not be inclusive as the BNP isn’t taking part,” he said on Tuesday (Feb 19) while briefing returning officers for the upcoming Upazila polls.
“As a result this election is on the verge of losing spirit,” he added.
Talking about elections to the post of the Upazila chairman, who are contesting on political parties’ tickets, he said, “The truth is almost everyone who has been nominated will be elected uncontested.”
Addressing the officials, Commissioner Talukdar said, “The polls will take place in par with the law and it must be ensured that the voters can exercise their franchises without a hitch.”
He warned that negligence on the part of returning and assistant returning officers would not be tolerated.
