To file a case against the journalists under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, the concerned police station will have to get the permission of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Momtaz Uddin Ahmed made this announcement at a workshop titled “On newspaper and journalism guidelines” in Kushtia on Saturday morning.

The BPC chairman said that journalists are working tirelessly for the betterment of the country. So, the government has moved to protect their rights and dignity.

Press Council Secretary Shyamal Chandra Karmakar, Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia Zahir Raihan and Abul Kalam Shahid, superintendent of Kushtia police were also present on the occasion.

Editors of local newspapers took part in the day-long workshop.
