The Election Commission (EC) has warned against irregularities in the upcoming 5th Upazila council elections.
“Polls will be stopped if necessary. But there will be no compromise with irregularities,” Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said on Wednesday (Feb 6).
Speaking at the inauguration of the training of returning and assistant returning officers of the upcoming polls at the city’s Agargaon, “If returning officers think the atmosphere is not congenial they will recommend to stop elections.
“If the situation goes out of returning officer’s control, election to the concerned Upazila will be suspended,” he instructed.
Huda asked the election officers to assure the polling agents of the entry to the voting stations.
The CEC also advised the officers to allow the people to exercise their voting rights.

The first phase of the fifth Upazila council election is scheduled to be held on Mar 10.
