Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed members of the police to ensure that the innocents aren’t harassed in any manner.
“Do not harass the innocents, rather help them if they are being harassed by anyone,” she said on Monday (Feb 4) while inaugurating the Police Week 2019 at the capital’s Rajarbagh Police Line.
”Bangladesh police stands for peace, security and discipline,” the prime minister said adding, “Police have to be people-friendly. They need to work in a manner so that the people can count on them,” the prime minister said.
The prime minister thanked the police force for their professional roles aimed at ensuring peace and order during the 11th National Parliamentary Election.
She said, “We must continue our drive against terrorist. Our focus is development. Police have been praised beyond our borders for their roles in reining in drugs, militancy and terrorism.”
“The drive aimed at eliminating drugs must go on,” she added.
The premier also said that the government will continue to enhance the police’s strength.
The prime minister announced that families of police members will be given Tk 800,000 in the event of their death while on duty and Tk 400,000 in case of injuries.
