Lawmakers have spent around 13 hours on abusive language in 2017, says Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
In a study launched on Thursday, it said that the state has spent Tk 163,686 per minute for the little over 260 hours of the four parliament sessions last year.
“It means the 13 hours of abusive language cost Tk 127.66 million,” TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said.
The study found that a portion of lawmakers have spent five percent of the total working hours on offensive and indecent statement, which TIB says is a clear violation of the parliament’s rules of business.
“They used abusive language against absent House colleagues, political rivals as well as members of the civil society,” said Iftekharuzzaman.
