The 11th Parliamentary Election was a successful affair, said Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
His remarks came on Thursday (Jan 31) while addressing the returning officers and assistant returning attending a training workshop for the Dhaka City Corporation polls.
“Not a while ago you conducted a free, fair, successful and acceptable election,” Huda said.
“You did your duty in establishing a government,” he added.
He said that the election officials have ensured a peaceful and democratic situation across the country by carrying out the polls despite the many obstacles.
“You are once more responsible for the Dhaka city polls and I hope that you will carry it out the same way.”
“Those who will be elected as mayor or councillor will get one year. After that in April 2020, the full election will take place,” he said while talking about the city corporation polls.
He called on the election officials to carry out their duties for the mayoral polls, councillor polls, Upazila Council polls and all the other elections with the utmost sincerity, transparency and impartiality like they did with the Dec 30 polls.
He said that no matter what, the Dhaka City Corporation polls is of utmost importance and its duties must be carried out accordingly.
Huda urged the officials to use their better judgments to carry out their responsibility and not to pay heed to the negative comments.
