Moratorium of fishing, tax-free import of vitamins to add impetus

In July, 2018, district administrators proposed the inclusion of Gaibandha, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Pabna and Sirajganj in the Vulnerable Group Feeding, VGF, aimed at providing alternative livelihood to fishermen.

That proposal is yet to be materialized. Ministry sources say that there was plan to regulate the price hike of fish and poultry feed.

To control the price of poultry feed, import of corn has been made tax free and import of vitamin mineral promix gets seven per cent tax waiver.

There was also a plan to impose a moratorium of fish catching during breeding season.

Mobile court inspection was also mentioned to change current nets to mono filament systems, including necessary incentives.

In order to fill posts of district and upazila livestock offices, 47 persons joined through 36th BCS.

To motivate farmers into fish cultivation and poultry, both sectors will have to freed from electricity bills. A proposal to fix the power rate at Tk. 3. 82 was sent to the NBR on 22 April last.

Meanwhile, 180 million specific pathogen was supplied and to ensure supply of disease free fish fries.

Polymar Chain Reaction, PCR, system was adopted through a joint initiative of fisheries department and World Fish.

PCR labs have been established in Satkhira, Khulna and Cox’s Bazar.

Work is also underway to establish healthy fish landing centres in Kishoreganj, Bhairab and Netrokona.

To establish the fish landing area in Bhirab, 2752 acre land has been acquired with tender already called for necessary construction.
