‘Bangabandhu airport will be built beside Padma bridge’

Md Mahbub Ali, Minister of State, Civil Aviation and Tourism MinistryA new airport, named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be built beside the Padma bridge, said Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister Md Mahbub Ali.

He informed the media about the ministry’s plan on the matter on Tuesday (Jan 15) at the capital’s Civil Aviation Headquarters.  

“This is a challenging ministry,” he said before adding that the location for the Bangabandhu International Airport has been finalized.

“Bangabandhu airport will be built beside the Padma bridge and the airport will be the hub between east and west,” said Ali.

On New York flights he said, “US Federal Aviation Authority will visit in March. Flights to New York will start after they issue their certificate.”

Responding to a query on aircraft ground handling irregularities he said that the allegations will be probed.

“We will take measures to raise the quality of service. New routes will be opened for Bangladesh Biman, the national carrier,” he added.
