On Wednesday, President Md Abdul Hamid decided that the assembly will convene at 3pm that day.

The Awami League has returned to power for the third consecutive term, securing 257 seats of the 298 seats where voting for the general election was held on Dec 30.

The Grand Alliance, the coalition headed by the ruling party, secured an absolute majority with 288 seats won by its candidates.

The Election Commission published the gazette notification for the results on Jan 1 and the new lawmakers took oath to their offices on Jan 3.

The Constitution requires the first session of a new parliament to be convened within 30 days of publication of the gazette notification.

The first task after the House goes to session will be electing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Following the election, the session will be adjourned so that the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker could take oath before joining the session.

The newly elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be sworn in by President Abdul Hamid at his office in the parliament.

The Session will resume presided over by the new Speaker, who will then announce a condolence motion.

After this, President Hamid will address the assembly’s first session.
