For her straight third term, Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina is forming a Cabinet comprising of 24 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers.
On Sunday (Jan 6),the government named the Cabinet members, a day before the swearing-in ceremony.
The Bangladesh government has never before named cabinet members before the oath-taking. Previously the media had to wait until the oath-taking ceremony to receive the final list.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told a media briefing that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has kept the portfolios of cabinet division, public administration, defence, power, energy and mineral resources and women and children affairs for herself.
The politically-significant local government, rural development and cooperative went to Cumilla-9 MP Tajul Islam while AHM Mustafa Kamal, who served as the planning minister in the previous administration, has been given the finance ministry.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader is retaining the road transport and bridges ministry.
