The Election Commission has scheduled the voting for the election to the Gazipur City Corporation after a High Court order forced it to postpone it.
The voting has been set for Jun 26 and the campaigns will resume from Jun 18, EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said.
The decision came from a commissioners’ meeting held on Sunday, he told the media.
The EC had previously set May 15 for voting in the Gazipur and Khulna city polls and had been preparing to hold the election.
But the High Court stalled the Gazipur election for three months following a petition challenging redistricting of six areas of Dhaka’s Savar Municipality to the Gazipur City Corporation.
On Thursday, the Appellate Division dismissed the stay order following pleas by the Awami League and BNP mayoral candidates and the Election Commission.
It also ordered the election to be held by Jun 28.
