Modi congratulates Hasina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina - India Prime Minister Narendra ModiIndian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina for her party’s landslide victory in the 11 parliamentary election held on Sunday (Dec 30), according to prime minister’s press wing sources.  

The Indian premier, in a phone call on, passed on good wishes to Hasina, who has now become the only person in Bangadesh’s history to be elected prime minister for a record fourth time and three times in a row.

India’s ruling party BJP General Secretary Ram Madhab has congratulated AL Secretary General Obaidul Quader.

The ruling party knocked out its opponents at 259 constituencies followed by its key ally Jatiya Party at 20 seats, according to the unofficial results announced by Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at the EC’s city office early Monday (Dec 31).

The BNP, the largest ally in the opposition coalition Jatiya Oikya Front, however, won five seats.
