It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to find out polls related irregularities and take necessary action, said International Affairs Adviser to Prime Minister Gowher Rizvi.
Responding to foreign observers’ and journalists queries at a post election briefing on Sunday (Dec 30), he said “As far as the Election Commission is concerned, it is their responsibility to find out if there is any proof to the allegation.”
If the Commission feels at any point that some candidates have used unfair or illegal mechanisms, it has the right to reject the certification of that candidate, he said.
Gowher Rizvi admitted that 18 people were killed and it is truly tragic.
He said we need to develop democratic institutions, processes and rule of law to reduce violence.
The more elections we have, we will learn, we will become mature and develop ourselves, he said.
