AL in power ensures people’s welfare: Hasina

FOCUS BANGLAThe Awami League at the helm of the country means that people’s welfare is ensured, party chief Sheikh Hasina said as she solicited vote in Sylhet.
Addressing an election rally at the Alia Madrasa grounds in the northeastern city on Saturday (Dec 22), the prime minister said that the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway will be turned into a four-lane one her party’s elected once again, reports UNB.
Hasina said the Awami League created jobs in the northeastern division and is working to build Bangladesh as a developed country.
“Every house of the country will come under the electricity coverage by 2021,” she said before pledging to introduce 5G mobile network.
The BNP-Jamaat established a reign of terror and corruption after coming to power in 2001, said the Awami League chief. “Bangladesh was known as a corrupt country during that regime.”
Bangladesh’s dignity achieved through the War of Liberation was ruined after 1975, said Hasina.
She urged people to votes for Awami League and Grand Alliance in all the constituencies in Sylhet divisions to continue the development pace.
She also introduced the AL and Grand Alliance candidates in all the constituencies of four districts -- Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj and Habiganj –- under Sylhet divisions before the audience.
AKA Momen, the brother of Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is contesting the election from Sylhet-1 seat.
The Awami League had won 15 seats out of the 19 seats in Sylhet during the 10th parliamentary election, while the Jatiya Party bagged 4 seats.
The Awami League chief reached Sylhet around 11.00 am aboard a regular Bangladesh Biman flight. 
She visited the shrines of Muslim saint Hazrat Shahjalal, Hazrat Shahparan and Hazrat Gazi Burhan Uddin before addressing the election rally.
