Law and order situation better than ever: IGPThe law and order situation ahead of the general election is “better than ever”, says the Bangladesh Police chief.
“If the prevailing atmosphere continues, we will be able to deliver a beautiful election,” Inspector General of Police Md Javed Patwary said on Thursday (Dec 20) after a meeting with the Election Commission.
The meeting at the Commission’s Agargaon offices was meant for an update of the law enforcement agencies plans for the national election slated for Dec 30, he said. “We informed them our latest situation and our own planning centring the upcoming polls.”
Responding to a query on opposition’s allegation that the police were not under the EC, the top law enforcers described it as “baseless”.
“Not only is the police, but the entire administration now under the control of the Election Commission,” said IGP Patwary.
He said that the police was initiating measures on specific allegations before adding “However, there have been instances of sweeping allegations.”
The Bangladesh Police chief was accompanied by Additional IGP Mokhlesur Rahman, Special Branch chief Shahidul Islam, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mian, Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of DMP Manirul Islam and Deputy Commissioner of Special Action Group Proloy Kumar Majumder, among others, during the meeting.
