The parliamentary election of Gaibandha-3 has been postponed on account of the death of opposition alliance Oikya Front candidate Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury.
The polls for the constituency will be rescheduled after the 11th National Elections are over, confirmed Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
“The polls for that constituency will be halted in accordance with the law,” he told the media on Thursday (Dec 20).
“The EC will come to a decision and announce a polls schedule for that constituency after the returning officers officially hand over his death certificate to us,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, Fazle Rabbi who was supposed to contest the polls with ‘paddy sheaf’ died at the capital’s United Hospital.
