Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Shantiniketan during her official visit to the Indian state of West Bengal later this month.
Her bilateral meeting with the Indian premier has been scheduled for May 25.
“India is our closest neighbour and we expect a good trip,” Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque told the Bangla Tribune on Tuesday.
“We have a very structured relationship and it’s expected that the existing cooperation and new areas of cooperation might be discussed by the two prime ministers,” he added.
Water, connectivity, power and infrastructure will dominate in the talks, according to an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Both the countries are going have elections in the coming months and it’s high-time to review the progress at the top level as well as to look at the next steps, said the official.
Hasina visited India last year while Modi came to Bangladesh in 2015.
Hasina’s two-day visit starts from May 25, when she will inaugurate the Bangladesh Bhawan in Viswa Bharati University and receive a honourary doctorate degree from Kazi Nazrul University in Asansol.
She will fly for Kolkata in the morning and then travel to Viswa Bharati University, including Santiniketan, to inaugurate the ‘Bangladesh Bhawan’ along with Modi.
The two premiers will then attend the convocation of the university.
Hasina will return to Kolkata the same day and travel to Asanol the next day to receive an honourary doctorate from the Kazi Nazrul Univesity.
She is expected to return Dhaka on May 26.
