Any instruction on quotas in public service is yet to come from the prime minister, says Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
“So far, there is no update on the issue. Members of the cabinet secretary-led panel will be decided by the public administration ministry,” he said while briefing the media after Monday’s Cabinet meeting.
Amid protests by students and job-seekers demanding reforms to quotas, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the parliament last month that the quota entire system will be rescinded.According to the existing system, the government keeps a quota of 30 percent for the families of freedom fighters, 10 percent for women, 10 percent for various districts and 5 percent for minorities and 1 percent for disabled people.
Alam, the top bureaucrat, said that he was hopeful about an official order over the matter ‘very soon’.
On Apr 26, the quota protest leaders warned of taking to the streets once again if a gazette notification was not published by that.
