Office hours for all all government institutions have been reset during the month of Ramadan, which begins in mid-may.
The decision was made during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the office timings for Ramadan will be from 9am to 3:30pm on all workdays, including a 15-minute prayer break from 1:15pm.
The hours for government offices are usually from 9am to 5pm. The changes are aimed at allowing all employees to reach home in time for iftar to break their fasts.
The public administration ministry said the new hours will be effective for all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous offices.
The Supreme Court, banks and other financial institutions will decide their own working hours.
The month of Ramadan may start on May 17, depending on moon sighting.
