Sheikh Hasina launches polls campaign offering wreaths at Bangabandhu shrine on Wednesday (Dec 12).Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina offered wreaths at Bangabandhu shrine to mark the launching of polls campaign for her party on Wednesday (Dec 12).
The premier reached Tungipara by road at 2.10pm and went straight to the shrine of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman where she first placed wreaths as the Prime Minister and then as the Awami League president, reports national news agency BSS.
After placing the wreaths, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu.
Bangabandhu’s youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana and other family members including Sheikh Selim, central party leaders including disaster management minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, several party candidates from greater Faridpur accompanied the premier as she paid the tributes as the Awami League chief.

Accompanied by Sheikh Rehana, younger daughter of the Father of the Nation, Sheikh Hasina joined a munajat there seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the Aug 15, 1975 carnage.
Earlier, the premier left the capital for Tungipara from her official Ganabhaban residence at 8:30 am.
The Awami League president is scheduled to address a public rally at Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Government Degree College ground at Kotalipara in the district in the afternoon.
On Dec 13, on her way back to Dhaka, she will join rallies and election campaign at Faridpur’s Bhanga and Faridpur intersection, Rajbari intersection; Paturia ferry ghat area; Manikganj bus stand; Rabeya Medical College Hospital ground and Savar bus stand on the outskirts of Dhaka.
AL Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman announced the programmes at a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office on Tuesday (Dec 11).
