Disgruntled candidates appeal to get back revoked nomination

The 11th National Parliamentary Election is slated for Dec 30Disgruntled candidates have begun an appeal process against decision of returning officers to get back their nomination.
Election Commission began taking appeals from Monday (Dec 3). Till afternoon, 22 people submitted appeals, say secretariat sources.
On Sunday, nomination papers were selected and of the 3065 nomination papers, 2279 were declared valid while 786 were cancelled. The candidates, whose nominations were cancelled, will be able to appeal between Dec 3 and 5.
Among those who appealed include: Golam Mowla Rony for Potuakhali-3, Nobab Shamsul Huda for Chapainawabganj-1, Khorshed Milton, Bogura-7, Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan, Kharachari, Abdul Wahab, Dhaka-20, Tajuddin, Satkhira-2, Mohammad Afsar Ali, Kisoreganj-2 etc.
The reasons for nomination revocation include: not having 1 per cent votes, signature missing in affidavit, loan default and prison sentence.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for Gonojagoron Moncho, Imran H Sarkar, told the media with an undertone of sarcasm, “Under the current criteria for cancellation, no one’s nomination will remain valid in the end.”
