Bir Protik Taramon Bibi has passed away at her own residence in Kurigram, said her son Abu Taher.

She died around 1:30am on Saturday (Dec 1).

“My mother had been suffering from breathing problems for a long time. We recently brought her back home for the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital. But breathing issues persisted while led her demise,” said Taher.

The original name of Bir Protik Taramon Bibi is Taramon Begum. She was born in Razippur’s Kachari Para in the Kurigram. She bravely fought in the liberation war under Sector 11. In 1973 the government recognised her outstanding contribution in the freedom fight and awarded her Bir Protik, the fourth highest gallantry award in Bangladesh.
