No violation of polls code in nomination filing: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.The electoral code of conduct was not violated during the process of filing nominations by aspirants across the country, says Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
“The whole process (of submitting nomination papers) was completed properly on Wednesday. There has been no incident violating the electoral code of conduct,” he said while addressing government officials at an event on Thursday (Nov 29) at the Commission’s Agargaon offices.
According to him, all of the candidates were accompanied by five to seven people while submitting their documents to the returning officers. “There were people outside, by no motorcade of showdown.”
Over 3,000 candidates have filed nomination papers for 300 parliamentary constituencies, which mean 10 aspirants on an average fighting for each seat.
The Commission revealed the figures after the deadline for nomination submission ended on Wednesday.
No constituency has a single candidate.
Only two candidates submitted nomination papers for Magura-2, the lowest number, while the highest number of nomination papers, 27, is for Dhaka-17.
According to division-wise data, 361 candidates have filed nomination papers for Rangpur constituencies, 353 for Rajshahi, 351 for Khulna, 182 for Barishal, 236 for Mymensingh, 708 for Dhaka, 177 for Sylhet and 688 for the seats in Chattogram.
The exact number of nomination papers is 3,056, according to EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.
Twenty-three other candidates successfully filed nomination papers online while 16 others of the online nomination forms were not fully filled out, he said.
The commission will scrutinise the nomination papers on Dec 2.
The campaign in the Dec 30 election will start after the distribution of the electoral symbols following end of the Dec 9 deadline for nomination withdrawal.
