Use of EVMs in line with Constitution: Law MinisterThe use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the national election does not contradict the Constitution, says Law Minister Anisul Huq.
His remarks came on Sunday (Nov 25) while speaking to the media after inaugurating the 24th Judicial Administration Training Workshop for district and sessions judges.
“EVMs are being used in line with the Constitution,” said Huq.
According to him, there was no computer or internet when the Constitution was formulated and everything is not stipulated in the charter. “Use of EVMs has been initiated in line with what the Constitution says.”
Responding a query on reservations over EVMs by opposition parties, including the BNP, Huq said, “What I fail to understand how they (BNP) come up with such statement when the chairman of the drafting committee for the Constitution (Dr Kamal Hossain) is with them.”
The law minister, however, declined to comment on the findings by US and Canadian investigators in the Niko graft.
“It’s a sub judice matter and I never comment on matters being tried in the court.”
