EVMs use on limited scale in national polls, says CEC. FILE PHOTOThe Election Commission (EC) will use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on a limited scale in the 11th Parliamentary Election, says Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.

“EVM is a new initiative. There is no legal bar to using EVMs in the upcoming parliamentary election. We will use it on a limited scale and we won’t backtrack from it,” Huda said on Friday (Nov 23).

Speaking to the media after inaugurating an EVM training programme at the EC’s Agargaon office, the CEC said, “How many EVMs will be used in the election will be finalised within the next two days.”

Referring to different quarters’ criticisms on EVMs, Huda invited those who oppose it to examine the system and let them know the technical sides of EVM.

He also asked the election officers to know the rules and regulations perfectly so that they (officials) can provide necessary training to the field levels.

Noting December 30 (Election Day) is a very crucial day for all especially political parties, the CEC said the election commission has taken all-out preparation for the day.
